If you use your dab rig regularly, it's a good idea to clean it out frequently.
You'll need a variation of:
- Salt
- Isopropyl Alcohol
- Res caps or plastic bags, and rubber bands
- Container
- Paper Towels
- Q-Tips
- Pipe Cleaners
- Funnel
Before you get started, make your cleaning solution. If you choose to soak your dab rig, find a container or bucket large enough to accommodate it. When you've added enough isopropyl alcohol, add ¼ to ½ cups of salt and mix it until it's almost (but not completely) dissolved.
Step #1: Take Your Dab Rig Apart
Taking your dab rig apart means removing any accessories, such as the nail. Then, you can either place the dab rig inside the container or pour the mixture inside the dab rig so that it's full.
Step #2: Place Your Res Caps
Res caps are for closing up any openings in your dab rig for cleaning or storage.
If you don't have any res caps, then you can use plastic bags with rubber bands. The key is to keep the cleaning solution there without leakage, since your next step is to shake it.
Step #3: Shake the Dab Rig Lightly
Once the mixture is inside, shake your dab rig lightly. This will help get the cleaning solution moving around your piece, which is especially helpful if you have stuck-on resin.
Step #4: Let the Dab Rig Soak
Allow your dab rig to soak. How long you want it to soak depends on your preferences, but the longer you let it soak, the more squeaky clean the dab rig will be.
If you're feeling impatient and plan to use it later in the day, then soaking it for 30 to 60 minutes will be sufficient.
Step #5: Rinse and Dry the Dab Rig Thoroughly
Rinse out your dab rig with room temperature water. Anything too hot or cold may cause cracks. Be sure to rinse a few times thoroughly to ensure all of the isopropyl alcohol, salt, and resin are gone.
Then, let it dry on a mat or dish rack. You can also speed up the process using paper towels, pipe cleaners, or cotton swabs. Double-check that it is thoroughly cleaned of any leftover isopropyl alcohol and salt to avoid putting yourself at any health risks.
