What is a Gravity Bong?

When filled with the proper amount of water, gravity bongs use simple physics to help you draw smoke that is smooth, clean, and strong. Using gravity and water movement, it allows you to pull and push smoke from its chamber.

In the past (before herb was popular, but on the down low), the gravity bong was a makeshift smoking device that was widely used for smoother hits.

But it was also messy and fairly inconsistent. Since then, it's undergone major upgrades, particularly in MJA's modern, sleek design. Impressive in look and feel, you won't regret getting your hands on a glass Piston gravity bong.

How do Gravity Bongs Work?

A gravity bong has two containers: one larger and one smaller. The smaller container usually has a bowl for packing your herbs or other smokable substances. The smaller container is also held inside the larger container, the two forming the bong's water chamber.

When you burn your herbs, you need to raise the small container just above the waterline so that all the smoke is pulled into the chamber by gravity. Once you've made enough smoke, you simply remove the bowl, then lower the small container.

Then, water flows back up, forcing the smoke out of the hole where the bowl used to be. From there, all that's left is for you to take your cloudy, heavenly hit.

This is a beauty. Perfect weight and well made; the glass is crystal clear. It takes a few tries to get it going. The video makes it look 👀 easy. Cleaning the percolator takes creativity; I use an empty protein jug to rinse with ISA 92% and it comes out sparkling clean. loveeee that a company finally made a true gbong. from what im reading in other reviews they misunderstand how to use it. you do not have to push it back into the water when smoking it. you hit it when there is just enough water left for the perks to function. always hated the gbongs that had the bottom entirely cut off.

How do I use a gravity bong step-by-step?

Here's a short guide to using your gravity bong (including The Piston):

  • Gather up your herb, bong, bowl, and lighter.
  • Fill the base container with water. Add enough so that the inner container is submerged, leaving room for it to move without spilling.
  • Place the inner container into the water so that it's mostly submerged. Make sure the bowl at the top is above the waterline.
  • Pack the bowl loosely and evenly.
  • Then, light the bowl at the top while slowly lifting up the inner container from the base.
  • Stop raising the chamber just before it passes the waterline.
  • Remove the bowl from the top.
  • Push the inner container down while placing your mouth at the top opening, and inhale the cloud of smoke as it exits.
  • Draw the smoke in, exhale, and let the inner container settle above the waterline.

Is smoking with a glass gravity bong harsh?
